Crafting Santa dolls is my passion, but never in a million years did I realize it would occupy so much of my time and energy.
When I was a little girl my Mom made me learn how to sew – more or less. I say more or less because the onus was on me. Either I learned to sew my own clothes or I better get used to wearing the same old things over and over again.
Now, don’t get me wrong. We weren’t poor or anything like that… it’s just that my Mom comes from the School for Being Frugal. She and Dad worked really long and hard hours for their money and they were not about to squander any of it. If you could make something cheaper than you could buy it… then, that’s what you did.
Looking back, this was a blessing in disguise because it gave me the foundation for an opportunity to learn about crafting Santa dolls. What’s more, it instilled a deep sense of conservatism.
Part of me sometimes feels like a painter or even an architect. I can stare at a piece of garment for the longest time and my head starts to spin with different ideas about how to create a style or develop a theme.
One big challenge when crafting Santa dolls is how to accessorize the doll to make sure everything is properly coordinated. People think I’m nuts when they discover I’m willing to take apart an almost completed doll and begin again if I’m unhappy with the look of what is being created.
Originally, this blog was meant to share some of the things I do during the year while preparing for my annual Santa Doll Collection public viewings in September and October. These are held each year at the Ward Warehouse Kaka’ako Conference Room in Honolulu.
As it turned out, it seems the blog has taken a life of its own.
Nevertheless, I plan to post during the year as regularly as possible and hope you find some of the comments worth reading.

Thanks for stopping by! I hope you enjoy a little insight into my world of crafting Santa dolls.
